Kinnear is so often underutilized by the movies he’s in, and he’s overdue for another terrific use of his wry-but-withering charm (see “Ghost Town,” “Auto Focus” and “Little Miss Sunshine” for great examples of that). Here he’s appropriately dissolute, but writer-director Josh Boone only requires Bill to be a passive chronicler, so Kinnear coasts.
